In 1909 the
government set the retiring age at 65. What
appeared to be a generous policy, was, in
the best traditions of politics, not what
it seemed, because the life expectancy was
60! |
By 1947 life expectancy had increased to
67 leaving the government liable for welfare support for
some 2 years.
Now in 2011 its not hard to see what a gigantic
liability faces the government. Life expectancies now exceed 80 years of
age, and all industrialized countries are moving towards a
day when the old will outnumber the young! This
situation will not compute; there is nothing the government
can do. The carpet will be ripped out from under retiree’s
feet.
